
Motherhood University Roorkee celebrated National Sports Day on August 29-30, 2025, with a two-day sports event dedicated to promoting health awareness and the significance of sports. On the first day, the university organized a 1-kilometer walkathon aimed at spreading awareness about fitness and encouraging active lifestyles. The second day featured chess and carrom competitions, engaging students and staff in indoor sports.
The event commenced with Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Narendra Sharma flagging off the walkathon. In his address, he highlighted that sports not only keep us physically healthy but also strengthen our mental abilities. He emphasized that this walkathon represents a commitment to fitness and nature, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of sports and a healthy lifestyle. Prof. Sharma also paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, sharing examples from his life and honoring his dedication to the country.
At the conclusion of the program, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Krishna Pal addressed the gathering, stating that such competitions reflect the university’s dedication to sports and health. He reiterated that the university will continue to organize such events, focusing on student welfare and holistic development.
The competition results were as follows: In carrom, Anurag Chand from the Faculty of Agriculture secured first place, while Shahzeb from the Faculty of Science achieved second place. In chess, Mohit from the Faculty of Legal Studies claimed first prize, with Paravpreet Singh from the Faculty of Nursing finishing second.
The National Sports Day celebration at Motherhood University was a tribute to Major Dhyan Chand’s sporting achievements and served to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and fitness among students. The event was graced by Registrar Ajay Gopal Sharma, faculty deans, professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and department heads from various faculties.
